Hearings by Video Conference at the WSIAT

In 2017, the Tribunal began conducting some hearings by way of video conference. During a video conference, the Tribunal Panel/Vice-Chair is in a hearing room in Toronto and the appellant is typically in his/her representative’s office or boardroom. We continue to offer this hearing format option in 2019 to representatives that meet the minimum technological requirements and have suitable cases.

Suitable cases for video conferencing are single party appeals with no witnesses, no interpreter, and no electronic evidence. As we gain experience with this new format, we may expand the types of cases that we hear via video conference.

In order to participate in video conferencing, you must have a laptop or desktop computer, a functioning webcam and microphone/speaker system, and a wired internet connection with a minimum upload speed of 1.5Mbps.

If you tell us that you are interested in this format, Tribunal staff will contact you prior to your hearing to test your set-up to ensure that the technological requirements are met and that the video conference format is appropriate.

If you have questions about video conferencing, please contact the WSIAT’s Call Centre at 416-314-8800 or 1-888-618-8846, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
